Catherine Grant is Honorary Professor at Aarhus Universitet, Denmark, and Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Reading, UK. Formerly, she was Professor of Digital Media and Screen Studies at Birkbeck, University of London. Since 2009, she has carried out her film and moving image studies research mostly in the form of remix-based video essays. She served as a founding co-editor of the award-winning, peer-reviewed journal [in]Transition: Journal of Videographic Film and Moving Image Studies for over a decade until March 2024 when she was made a Founding Editor Emerita. She has also run the Film Studies For Free and Audiovisualcy social media platforms since their founding (in 2008 and 2011, respectively). In 2020, in recognition of her research and service, Grant was elected member of the Film, Media and Visual Studies section of Academia Europaea.  In 2025, she was also accorded the great honour of being elected as a Fellow of the British Academy. She still works professionally as a commissioned academic filmmaker, researcher, guest speaker, workshop leader, research mentor and consultant, and external examiner.
