Catherine Grant is an independent scholar, film critic and filmmaker, and also works as a guest speaker, research consultant and supervisor, and external examiner. She was Professor of Digital Media and Screen Studies at Birkbeck, University of London, based in the Department of Film, Media and Cultural Studies in the School of Arts until August 2020 when she was appointed as Honorary Research Fellow in this School. As a researcher and critic, Grant mostly makes and reflects on audiovisual essays about screen media studies. She is author of the Open Access scholarly website Film Studies For Free. In 2020, she was elected member of Academia Europaea’s Film, Media and Visual Studies section. She was also appointed as a Cinepoetics Senior Fellow (Center for Advanced Film Studies, Freie Universität Berlin) for the 2020-21 research focus on Digital Material and Essayistic Method.
